It will permanently shut down the units by Dec. 31, 2010.  The company says since announcing plans to for a Burger biomass repowering project was announced…market prices for electricity have “fallen significantly” and expected market prices no longer support a repowered Burger Plant.

The 79 employees of the Burger Plant will either continue at the plant during the shut-down process or be temporarily reassigned to other FirstEnergy facilities.  As those activities wind down the company said it will offer affected employees other job opportunities with the FirstEnergy system.  FirstEnergy has notified the U.S. EPA and the plaintiffs in the case of its plans to close the Burger units.
